Job Posting for the Position of Children’s Librarian (Permanent Part-time)

Hours: 13 hours/ week + 3 hours/month for social media

Salary Range: $18.00-$22.00/hour

Looking for a creative way to engage in the Athens community and work with children?  Athens Public Library is searching for a Children’s Librarian!

Position Summary
The Children’s Librarian is responsible for overseeing services to children and teens including planning, collection development, programming and outreach, as well as front desk/circulation services.  This position requires evening and weekend hours. 

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Diploma.
  • Library Technician diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience, Ontario Library Service EXCEL Certificate, or willingness to complete the course.
  • 2 or more years experience working with young children and/or youth.
  • Proficient with technology.
  • Excellent in customer service, writing and literacy skills.
  • Knowledge of library systems and services.
  • Physical ability to assist patrons, carry out library duties and to lift up-to 25 lbs without difficulty.
  • Recent vulnerable sector police check.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates programs for children and teens at the library and off-site.
  • Oversees children’s, teen and young adult collections, including purchasing and weeding. Manages budget for the materials and statistics for programs.
  • Maintains and continues to develop the makerspace area.
  • Supervises volunteers for Children’s Programming.
  • Applies for grants compatible with Children’s Programming.
  • Coordinates and posts the library’s social media pages and submits weekly programs to the Westport Review Mirror.
  • Acts as person-in-charge in the absence of the CEO.
