Adopt-a-Book list
When you choose to adopt a book for our library, you get to read the book first, you will receive a tax receipt* and, if you choose, we will put a name plaque in the front of the book. You can adopt a new book to skip the holds line, to commemorate a life event, as a dedication to a loved one or to give back to your community.
If you would like to purchase one of these titles as a donation, please call or email us at 613-924-2048 or athenspubliclibrary@gmail.com.
*If the book that you adopt is $25 or more, if you adopt multiple books totaling $25 or more over the same calendar year, or you make a donation as well as adopting a book, you will be issued a tax receipt for your donation if requested.

Donate Your Time
Like many libraries, we could not do what we do without volunteers. If you are interested in and able to give back to your community, please consider becoming a volunteer at Athens Public Library.
Volunteer Positions
General:
This position has the most varied tasks. Someone in this position may help us by making craft kits, removing barcodes from discarded books, tidying the Makerspace, putting away books, and a number of other tasks. Individuals 14+ may apply, or those in the summer break between grades 8 and 9.
Toddler Time:
This position involves coming up with a theme, creating activities, picking out books, and running Toddler Times. People wanting to run Toddler Times must be comfortable singing and dancing in front of children and their caregivers. Minimum of one Thursday a month, 9:45-11:15 am, for adults 18+. This position requires a valid vulnerable sector police check (within one year).
Specialty Skills:
Do you have a skill that most people don’t that you would like to share with your neighbours? Consider speaking with us about running a program at the Library! Your skill could be anything from teaching others to knit, paint, become a better writer, learn financial literacy, computer use, or something else!
Don’t want to be a regular volunteer?
That’s okay! We have a number of tasks waiting to be done at any moment. If you find yourself with a free evening, give us a call and we’ll let you know what you can do.
These tasks can be:
-Shelving books
-Making sure books are in the right order
-Remove barcodes from books
-Sorting Lego
-Setting up a scavenger hunt
-Checking if games and puzzles have all their pieces
-Making craft kits
and more!
